Writing Across the Curriculum

WAC Course Development Grant Application Form

Note: All applications must be received by March 16, 2009.

The following form asks you to provide information about yourself and about the undergraduate course you would like to develop as a writing-intensive course for delivery in the 2009/2010 academic year. It also asks you to answer a series of questions discussing how and why the proposed course would work well as a writing intensive course.

As we consider this year's proposals, the following applications will be given priority:

  • Applications from first-time applicants
  • Applications from departments that are under-represented in the WAC program
  • Applications for courses that don't traditionally use writing as part of their course goals

When you have completed the form, please hit submit and your application will be forwarded to the WAC Program. All applicants will be notified by April 10, 2009.

A writing intensive course focuses on using writing assignments to achieve the goals of the class. These assignments should account for at least 40% of the course grade. In the box below, please describe the goals of your proposed course and how you plan to use in-class and formal writing assignments to meet these goals.
Revision is an integral part of a writing intensive course. In the box below, please explain how you have or plan to incorporate opportunities for student revision in your proposed course.
Writing intensive courses require a significant amount of written feedback from instructor to student. In the box below, please describe your experience with providing students feedback on their writing.

Please note: Writing Intensive courses with an enrollment cap of 25 or more undergraduate students may be eligible for a writing consultant: a graduate student assistant who functions as a course-dedicated writing tutor. Professors who request and receive writing consultant appointments will be encouraged to choose graduate students from their own departments.
